Review :
Outstanding!
This book was just what we needed. It presents the pregnancy basically "day by day". It shows pictures as to what the developing baby might look like/size at each step of the way. Tons of information and all organized in an easy to read manner! Why waste your time searching the internet when it is ALL right here organized and read to be read anywhere, anytime...even when the internet connection is DOWN. My wife loves this book, she takes it with her all around the house, hahaha. Worth the $$

Very useful the first time - and beyond.
I purchased this book many years ago for myself. It features day to day updates with useful tidbits you might not think to ask. There are also milestone updates and what to expect at your major appointments / scans. I will say, it is based around the UK system, but that did not put me off. I felt it actually added to the book. I am expecting a second time and found myself forgetting what happened the first time - out came his book. Also, when I found out my sister was expecting, this was my first gift to her.

Manageable reads for my husband and I before bed - a quick lesson of what's happening around that time and what to think about!
A friend actually gave me this book, and I simply adore it. Yes, this information isn't revolutionary and can be found in other sources like the What to Expect book (which I am also reading - and the app), Internet sources, etc. However, this book is beautiful to look at (lots of pictures, and the book is full color), and in a high quality hard cover. It breaks tidbits of info and knowledge down into manageable bites - a page or two per day to read. It also ranks things so you are reading about them when you are experiencing them or need to start planning ahead time-wise, which makes me feel like I am staying on track. This is perfect for me right before bed, and enough that I don't overwhelm my husband, but are are learning, together. I think it's a great buy for first time mom, and would make a lovely gift. I really can't say enough nice things about it!

Showcasing your baby's weekly progress with watercolor fruits and veggies-growing in size from pea to pumpkin-this journal is the perfect place to record the memories and thoughts most important to you. Includes...

•Watercolor fruits and veggies-a new one for each week
•Dozens of easy, breezy fill-in prompts
•Spots for ultrasounds and photos
•Ribbon bookmark for easy placeholding

Review :
Some intriguing prompts, but others are a bit creepy. There is not much room for weekly notes and only 9 spaces for photos.
I'm updating this review after using this book for 26 weeks:

This journal does a good job of prompting you to write about things you might not have thought to discuss. Somewhat of a "fill in the blank" process, the journal has incomplete sentences that you fill in. There have been several, such as, "Baby, what I really want you to know about me is _______________" that I probably wouldn't have ever thought to include in my baby journal, and was glad to write about. Some other examples of this are:

"My parents are acting ______ and it makes me feel ______"

"The baby can hear now. What he/she probably hears most is _____."

"Baby, someone gave me this advice about you and I don't want to forget it: ______".

However, there are only 9 pages for photos, and next to no room to record what's happening each week during my pregnancy, as the entire page each week is taken up by these fill-in-the-blank questions. Some of the prompts don't...
Perfect
I got this for my 3rd pregnancy...exactly what I wanted. Just the right amount of questions, and I keep track of little stories on the "fruit" pages. Love it.

Cute idea but not practical enough for my taste
The journal has cute fill-in-the-blanks for week-by-week but very little room for free form journaling. It also does not include room to record notes from doctors appointments, ultrasounds, etc which is something that I would really like to see.

Review :
The best book for new twin moms and twin moms-to-be
I have read a LOT of books on how to survive your first year with twins and this is by far my favorite. I really like the balance the author found between providing truly helpful advice and personal stories of being in the trenches. She has a great sense of humor and will make you bust out in laughter more than once, but her voice is also very warm and conversational. Like you're chatting with your wise mom-friend who's "been there, done that" and is ready to dish everything you need to know. I just survived my first year with twins and I wish this book existed sooner! Even if your babies are already here and you may be past the first few months, I still think it's a worthwhile read for the advice on sleep training and also on marital issues (something that most twin books I read didn't really cover in depth... the advice she gives is very helpful to me even after their 1st birthday...)

Great tips; left me feeling happy
A quick, enjoyable read. This book offered practical tips that seem like they'll be very helpful once my twins arrive, and didn't leave me terrified. I can see myself returning to this book many times to refresh as my babies progress through their first year.

I love my daughters to death but after having twins I ...
There is really nothing wrong with this book in itself. But I read eight books about having twins and none of them remotely prepared me for the amount of work twins are. I love my daughters to death but after having twins I think a single baby would be a cake walk. There is no book I could find that really prepares you for your experience and I doubt such a book exist.

The New Go-to Guide for Pregnancy!
This book is fantastic!!! I bought it for my cousin who just became pregnant and it will be my go-to gift for all my expectant friends and family. If you can't have Lori by your side during your pregnancy, then this book is the next best thing. It is a all-encompassing book that will help any expecting mom feel grounded, connected to her baby and lay the foundation for a healthy pregnancy. I love the recipe for Lori's LaborAde, the easy-to-follow checklists, diagrams for prenatal yoga poses and tips for eating healthy on a budget, plus anything else you would need to know but not the typical info you find in other pregnancy books!

The Mindful Mom -to -Be is a go to guide and support system for one of the most important times of a woman's life.
Creating a supportive and healthy foundation mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically is so important during any life change or transition. This is even more important in embarking on the 'Path of Motherhood. A healthy foundation always starts with 'us' personally; however we don't always know how to develop and maintain this foundation. Lori Bregman in her book: "The Mindful Mom-to-Be not only outlines this for us, but acts as supportive partner via her health information, life advice, natural remedies, mind-body exercises, meditation; as well as the vast practical experience she has from being a practicing Doula. You can see why she is not only so sought after, but that her book is considered one of the 'must reads' for not only mothers, but any woman embarking on new level of growth.

... working with Lori as my doula and I can't recommend her enough
I have first hand experienced working with Lori as my doula and I can't recommend her enough! Her book is full of wonderful tips and advice for the mom to be. As a new mom I had no idea what to expect and Lori was a wealth of knowledge, love and resources.

Review :
Not really a journal...
I bought this book before I knew that there were other journals out there, I looked at the first few pages which had questions about my pregnancy... which I liked I want to document my pregnancy the best I can. Before I started writing in it however, I didn't look through the rest of the book. There is more information in it day to day than there is space to write about your own pregnancy. I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday and I saw "The Belly Book" and I WISH I would've gotten that one, and I probably still will since this "journal" isn't really a journal. If you want the information and a journal I would just get "What to expect when you're expecting" and "The Belly Book". Then you get the best of both worlds. Hopefully that is helpful to some of you other preggo ladies out there, I just totally wouldn't recommend it unless you look through the book first and decide that's what you want.

What a wonderful tool!
I purchase this journal in 2002 after I found out I was pregnant with my daugther. After looking at many different journals I decided on this one due to the information given for each day, the questions for each day and the space to make notes. The questions helped to prompt me as to what to make notes of. At first I also had a hard time figuring out the correct dates to enter. Once I got that part figured I was good to go. I liked the size of the book too. I pasted in all the ultrasound pictures, cards I received, pictures of my growing belly and of Daddy hard at work painting the baby's room and putting together the crib. I pressed in flowers from congratulation bouquets and a copy of her foot prints at the very end. It is the only record of her life that we have as she passed away the day before she was due. I am truly grateful for this journal and all the happy memories it holds for us now. I strongly urge all expectant moms to use this journal, it is such a joy to look back on...
Really disappointed with this Journal
I was incredibly disappointed with this journal. The author is overbearing in her advice, especially her dietary recommendations, for which she seems unqualified to give as a Ph.D. and not an MD or dietitian, and she lists no co-authors or resources that would qualify her to be so incredibly repetitive and specific. Especially early on in the journal, I amused myself by counting how many times she emphasizes the word 'organic' per sentence. I'm eating organic, I get it! It doesn't need to be every other word! Additionally, she fixates on weight in a very negative and frustrating way. If my doctor says I'm on track, I don't need a psychologist telling me otherwise and her overemphasis on the subject only highlighted for me that she was not a credible or knowledgeable source.
Space for reflection is inconsistent--I would prefer space for notes, weight, and thoughts to be regularly paced instead of sporadic as it is here. As many others have pointed out, her dates are...

Review :
Amazing book - My go-to resource
For my first pregnancy, I read The Mayo Clinic Pregnancy Book, What to Expect, The Husband-Coached Childbirth, and this Penny Simkin book, Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn. This book had the best balance of stats based on evidenced based medicine but also real life anecdotal vignettes from mothers. Throughout the book, there are quotes from mothers sharing their expectations and experiences - these voices put into perspective that there is no one right way, just a few different options that might work for me.

For full disclosure, I approached this first pregnancy considering a natural childbirth but open to using drugs if needed. Since I come from a family of physicians I was skeptical of going too far off the holistic deep-end. I wanted to stay within a comfort zone that balanced following my body and practicing the best evidence-based medicine. After reading many Amazon reviews, I bought this book and was very very happy in its approach to preparing for and giving...
comprehensive, just a little bit biased
I was recommended 'What to expect...' book, but bought this one after reading helpful Amazon reviews. (I am a dad, read this book to support my wife.) It indeed has a wealth of information. The author is obviously on the "natural" side, but does her best to overcome her bias and give full information. She succeeds most of the time. Just be aware that her "pro-natural-birth" arguments turn out slightly more convincing. Still I often went back to this book for comprehensive information.

My recommendation is like this. If you prefer natural birth, definitely buy this book! This will give you a lot of really helpful information, and convincing arguments to hold your ground against those who think otherwise. And, importantly, you'll know what to reserve to if the birth just does not occur naturally. (As it happened to my wife.)

If you are skeptic about natural birth, or prefer a balanced approach, you will still benefit a lot from this book. But make sure to read...
Everything and More!
While looking through pregnancy books, I got tired of reading about how you got a second line, got sick, got fat, and squeezed out your "bundle of joy." What about the reality of the situation and how exactly that "bundle of joy" finds its way out of me and into this world?

I could not be happier with my purchase of this book. It starts with a few chapters on the typical progression of mother and baby during pregnancy. It includes exercise and diet tips (with pictures) for pregnant women. There is a chapter on complications during pregnancy as well as one on how to plan for a birth. Birth plans are discussed in good detail, as well as interview questions for your OB/Midwife/Doula. In fact, there are different lists for each of those. Although doulas are discussed, this book does not assume you will have either a medicated or a natural birth. Those decisions are left to you.

There are several chapters on labor and delivery. It was extremely informational...

Review :
I'm stocking up on this book as a gift item for moms-to-be in my life!
The Pregnancy Countdown Book is a page-a-day guide chock full of advice for expecting parents. Author Susan Magee cuts right to the chase and avoids euphemisms--pregnancy is not "complex," it is hard--hard in the first trimester, hard in the middle, and hard near the end. Magee describes the rewards, but she doesn't try to sugar-coat anything.

Many of the gems in this book deal with those things you needs to know but are reluctant to ask: foods and activities to stop when you are pregnant, proper sleeping posture, when to stop air travel, dealing with varicose veins, and how (and when) to break the news to friends and family. Tips include recommended products, resources, tricks, and websites. This is the kind of book that reassures a worry-wort, because the author and her MD co-author have been there and done it all, and they will remind you what to do at the right time.

I was especially intrigued by Magee's attention to the relationship between the parents...
easy to read, sometimes funny... otherwise useless
I bought it as a starter book for my first pregnancy. Every page basically says: hey, we all know what I know... pregnancy is hard... but with a bit of humor we can make it through!

This may or may not be your attitude towards pregnancy. Personally, I think pregnancy is wonderful. But then, I was lucky to feel good most of the time... may not apply to everyone. The book said: you should feel crappy, and I wondered: "am I normal?" I didn't feel I needed the humorous approach they suggest; moreover, I felt that their humor assumes too much. And I didn't particularly like the excessively familiar tone of this book. Otherwise, it's quick and light reading on the go, quite pleasant too.

I like the way it's organized day-by-day. Unfortunately, even though it makes you feel like it should contains lots of info that would be daily applicable, that is not the case. It's full of encouragement, though, if that's what you need! It does not give you many tips on nutrition or...
The Best Pregnancy Book out there!
Susan Magee lives in my neighborhood. She's the nicest and funniest person, always cracking us up. I was pregnant while she was working on her book and she made me laugh and gave me so much good advice. She was the only person who told me that we should take an experienced mom to Babies R Us to register and not to feel bad if we had to go back three times to figure it all out. She was the only person who told me that I should prepare for a C-section, just in case. I'm glad I listened to her. Despite my intention to deliver my daughter with a midwife, Maya was breech and I needed a C-section. If I hadn't read up about the procedure (Susan gave me the pages

of her manuscript), I would have been terrified. She also warned me not to freak out if I didn't bond with the baby instantly. She said for many women, the experience of childbirth (plus surgery) is so overwhelming that it's

hard to focus on the baby right away. Finally, she's the only one who prepared me for...

Review :
Humorous, somewhat helpful book written by a woman with serious body issues and low opinion of men
Good stuff: She gives really good advice on certain topics such as not to be embarrassed or afraid of wasting your doctor's time. She helps explain how your relationship with your OB is very different from any other doctor. She is also very reassuring and helps you prepare for any number of gross and/or embarrassing issues that may come up during your pregnancy or delivery.

Bad Stuff: Oh boy does she have body issues!!!! There is barely a topic in the entire book that she doesn't relate back to the fact that you are fat and disgusting when you are pregnant. She herself went from a size four to a ten so she was hardly obese but she will simply not stop harping on how unattractive you are when you are pregnant. She also goes out of her way to let you know that not only she thinks pregnant women are by nature gross to look at but that your husband thinks you look gross. She describes her own husband as only having sex with her when she was bigger out of pity. She does include...
No girlfriend of mine...
I was reading this book (a gift from a friend) while 5 months pregnant and at the gym on an elliptical trainer. It's not well-written and not my sense of humor so I'd been skipping around and did find some parts informative. I was absolutely floored, however, when I read her reasons to avoid exercise when pregnant. Are you kidding me? No ob/gyn today would recommend this unless health problems exist with mother or baby and/ or a pregnancy is high risk. Totally irresponsible to 1) ignore that study after study shows exercise is, in fact, beneficial and recommended for pregnant and nursing women along with the majority of our obese general population and 2) try to induce guilt about what could happen to your baby if you don't follow her moronic, baseless advice.

I wrapped up 25 minutes on the elliptical and then headed into a Cardio/weight class for an hour, tossing this book in the trash as I went. Never felt better!

This book is dated and ridiculous
This book is ridiculous. There are a few good one-liners but do you really want to waste your money for a couple funny lines? The author is obsessed about her weight (gasp! She got all the way up to a SIZE 10! The world is ending!) and silly things like pedicures and stretch marks. I don't get why people say this book "tells it like it is." Why, because she mentions gas and morning sickness? Or does everyone "capitulate" to their husbands' sexual demands so that he won't run out and have an affair? What planet is this woman living on? Oh, yeah, Planet Playboy Bunny and her Supermodel Friends! I wouldn't want to be friends with any of these people.

The chapter on exercise is downright false, saying don't exercise because you could a. cause a miscarriage and b. you'll get fat anyway. Oh, and you won't look cute in your leotard. I haven't worn a leotard since I took ballet around age 7. (Oh, but if you have a library copy or a used copy, do enjoy the chapter on maternity wear...
